  • We get asked all the time: “What fruit can I grow in pots”. The answer is: “Not many, if you want an easy life and good crops”. In pots, some species don’t like their roots being constricted, some will need constant watering and some don’t like the variation in soil temperature. So, we asked our trusted trusted fruit growers which they would recommend and they have three they would swear by:
  • ‘Bluecrop’ blueberry is one of John’s favourite blueberries, which are just perfect for growing in pots. They’re actually easier to grow in pots, because they prefer slightly ericaceous soil to perform best. You’ll get a dense shrub, with buckets full of fruit. Nothing better than picking them fresh from your patio first thing in the morning for your cereal
  • The ‘Lord Napier’ nectarine, which was a surprise hit with both growers – “Growing in a pot means you can overwinter them indoors, but also you avoid one of the main problems with peach trees which is leaf curl. If they’re in pots, you’re watering them from the base and it’s not gathering on the leaves, which is the issue with trees in the ground – it’s also a great way to protect the flowers from frost and get a better crop”
  • The Award winning ‘Brown Turkey’ fig is Josh’s pick for its easy growing, compact size and “the best taste of any fig”
  • All of these fruit trees are fully hardy and suitable for any size of garden
  • Apple and nectarine trees boast delightful spring blossom and are highly beneficial to pollinators
  • Please see individual tree pages for sizes, harvest times and more
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming “leggy”, and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE
